18th July 2016.
Here’s an update on recent things Steve related.
Steve is currently half way through a tour of the USA opening for Steely Dan. His band is unchanged from recent tours so he is still accompanied by Jose Neto, Paul Booth, Richard Bailey and Cafe da Silva. So far the set has remained unchanged throughout. When Steve toured Australia with Steely Dan he would often guest with them on vocals/ Hammond organ on Pretzel Logic, and Roadrunner. So far he has yet to guest with them, but we live in hope.

Tour Update. Steve had to do without the services of master guitarist Jose Neto for the Tampa show on 30/6 due to Jose being unwell. The band played as a 4 piece and made a few changes to the set, bringing in Had To Cry Today and Glad and opened with 40000 Headmen. Jose is now back on track you’ll be pleased to hear. Cafe guested on percussion for Do It Again with ‘the Dan’ at the Holmdel show on 6/7.
Earlier this year a reworked version of Higher Love was released through iTunes. Lilly Winwood on lead vocals was accompanied by her dad on piano and backing vocals. This stripped down version works really well, and in the USA the song was used on a Herschey’s chocolate T.V. commercial. It can be heard in its full length audio version at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsS4xlHKnpw
In the absence of new studio material from Steve, and no news of anything new in in the short term, I thought you might like news on releases by fellow musicians old and new. Paul Booth released the excellent Patchwork Project vol 1 album, which has been reviewed on this web-site. Last year Jose Neto released “Made in Sao Paul” and Randall Bramblett released the excellent Devil Music. Ex drummer Walfredo Reyes jr. is currently plying his trade with Chicago.
Crossroads revisited is a new CD release, featuring Eric Clapton and guests, taking highlights from the last 3 guitar festivals. Steve is featured on Presence Of The Lord and Dear Mr. Fantasy. This wonderful 3 CD set also includes B.B. King, Jeff Beck, Derek Trucks, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray and many others.
All the best.

28th June 2015. NICK CAPALDI. Interestingly, a great nephew of Jim Capaldi and a singer songwriter too. This 2009 article gives some background on him http://www.dorsetecho.co.uk/news/4527283.Dorchester_musician_Nick_Capaldi_signs_record_deal/ and his website has more info and features some of his music: http://nickcapaldi.com There's a youtube video of a very nice song called 'In my shoes" that's worth a listen from 2011 and the video interestingly pictures him pulling out a couple of vinyl albums in a record store being Jims 'Oh how we danced' and a Dave Mason album too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edWuK1ePI2I A chip of the old block you might say? Thanks to Andy M for the spot.
20th May 2015. An amazing picture archive of Traffic taken by Brian Cooke who was the "in house" photographer for Island Records for a time during the 70's can be viewed here: http://trafficpicturearchive.co.uk With a heads up to Baz for spotting.

16th September 2013. The latest edition of RECORD COLLECTOR MAGAZINE contains a 5 page article written by Alan Clayson on the making of Arc of A Diver. Clayson wrote an autobiography on Steve Winwood back in 1988 entitled Back in the High Life. I heard a rumour that this book is going to be reissued with updates at some point. Perhaps this article will be part of the reissue. I've not read the article, just had a quick glance, but I noticed that Clayson credits Steve Winwood and Ross Mitchell at the end of the article.
31st July 2013. Just in case you weren't previously aware, Chris Wood played Flute on a recording entitled "A Game Called LIfe" for former Derek & The Dominos keyboard player & vocalist Bobby Whitlock's self titled first solo album. The album recorded in 1972, just before Derek & the Dominos intended sessions for the follow up to the Layla album-which were aborted during early sessions, met with very little success for Bobby. Which was a shame because the album featured some stellar musicians like George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Klaus Voorman, Jim Keltner etc., Earlier this year a collection entitled "Where There's a Will, There's a Way - The ABC-Dunhill Recordings" was released which featured the recordings for his first solo album (as mentioned above) and his second album "Raw Velvet". This link provides more information on who played on which tracks:
You can listen to a segment of the track on iTunes and buy it also there should you wish.

11th March 2013. A couple of nice "soundbites" on Soundcloud well worth a listen. Firstly an edit of Steve's "Talking Back to the Night" at https://soundcloud.com/northern-rascal/steve-winwood-talking-back-to and a great "Mash up" of TRAFFIC and Led Zeppelin for https://soundcloud.com/soundhog/soundhog-john-barleycorn-must.
